Beautiful B.J.’s Fine Art Portraits | Sarah Morgan Photography

Beautiful B.J.’s Fine Art Portrait Session

B.J. is a friend who is always willing to have some fun.  I had been scouting out a location for over a year and finally hit on the perfect place to photograph this beautiful, free-spirited, fun woman.  She brought along the perfect gown and was willing to hike a bit to get to the location I had envisioned.  I hate to even think of what kinds of critters were lurking in the tall grasses and weeds!  She was a trooper and her willingness to let me play was worth it when we saw these images!

I really enjoy the editing process as much as the photography.  Painting portraits creates an old-world feel that I love.

Gall Family | Sarah Morgan Photography

Gall Family

I just love the Gall family!  Michael and Shelley have been some of my very best friends for years.  We were all thrilled when Mason joined the fun!  I was super excited with Michael called and said he wanted to surprise Shelley with a family portrait session.  I actually talked him out of the surprise part since us girls like to coordinate clothing and get our hair and makeup done!  But Shelley was so happy and excited!

Old Poway Park

We decided on my favorite park, Old Poway Park.  This is always a good choice for families with kids, especially boys.  Mason had a blast looking at the trains, which kept his interest in the session.  He’s my boyfriend, so he’ll do anything for me anyway 😉

We had fun walking around the park and finding interesting places to do their portraits.  I’m so happy and blessed that these fun, beautiful people are a part of my life!

Nooshin & Caleb | Sarah Morgan Photography

Nooshin contacted me to ask if I would do maternity portraits for her and her husband.  They were coming to San Diego to babymoon!  I LOVE this idea!  A nice little break and vacation before baby comes and life gets hectic. We met at Coronado Beach in front of the Hotel Del Coronado.  Nooshin had brought beautiful gowns to wear, which looked amazing at the beach and in the sunlight.

I love Nooshin and Caleb’s love story.  She is from Iran and he is from the States.  They met back east while in school and fell in love.  They moved to Arizona and are now both professors at the University of Arizona.  They are expecting their little bundle in May.

Berkshire Hathaway Day at the Studio

Berkshire Hathaway Photo Day

A few times a year we open the studio especially for Berkshire Hathaway real estate agents.  This gives them an opportunity to come in for a professional headshot photo that is quick and affordable.  It is always fun to meet all these great people and catch up with my makeup artist, Lisa Wintersdorff, who is there to do the lady’s makeup.

If you are a realtor, real estate agent or broker, your headshot is your introduction to prospective and future clients.  Make sure it truly represents who you are and your business brand.  This is important so you attrack the clients you really want to work with!  If you are using a photo your friend took with their iPhone, it’s time to up your game with a new portrait.  You are running a business and whether we know it or not, prospective clients make judgments within seconds of seeing your photo.  Make sure those judgments are that you are professional, approachable, eliable and can get the job done.

Cher Conner Team Photos

The Cher Conner team needed updated, contemporary team photos for their realty brokerage.  They chose the amazing Museum of Contemporary Art for their session site.  Their clothing was perfect for their team photos as Cher stands out as the lead realtor and the red and black helps with the contemporary feel of the portraits.  They even painted the stools read for their shoot.  I love when clients have a vision and can execute it!

Qian Maternity Portraits | Sarah Morgan Photography

Coco Qian  contacted the studio about having her maternity portraits done.  I talked her into bringing along her daughter and husband for a few shots.  What a beautiful family!  I especially loved that they had a sense of humor and requested some fun portraits.

Shields Family | Sarah Morgan Photography

Shields Family

I met Rob and Cheryl Shields at a charity event they were hosting.  Rob and Cheryl host A Night To Remember Prom, which is a free prom honoring students with special needs.  Kids, ages 15-22 year old, are invited and honored each year.  They are in their 7th year!  I was honored to donate a couple photography sessions to help them raise money.  I was even more honored when I found out that Cheryl had purchased the family portrait session herself!!

Ocean Beach, CA

After chatting with Cheryl we decided on Ocean Beach Pier for their portrait.  The beach and pier hold special meaning for their family so it was the perfect place to capture a new family portrait.  It just happened that their favorite ball team, The Chicago Cubs, had just won the World Series!  Being the true fans that they are, they sported their Cubs shirts for a few photos!

Rustemoglu Family | Sarah Morgan Photography

Rustemoglu Family

I met Gulsum Rustemoglu when I did headshots for her and her employees.  She loved her portraits and asked if I did family portraits.  I answered that I sure do and we set up her session.

Orfila Winery

Gulsum and her family decided they wanted a cool, fun place to do their photography.  They wanted a very casual look and feel to their portraits.  Gulsum did some research and came up with Orfila Winery.  Orfila has beautiful views!  We did their portrait in October so the vines were dying off, but the still provided a fun backdrop.

Why Do You Need A Professional Headshot?

Why do you need a pro?

You have a great camera with a timer and a tripod or even an iPhone, so why do you need a professional to take your headshot?  I get it, getting in to a new business such as real estate is overwhelming, time consuming and expensive.  Every time you turn around you are purchasing or paying for something else like marketing materials and signage.  These items are essential for your business, so why spend the money to go to a professional photographer for your headshot when you can just snap one yourself?

A few good reasons for hiring a pro!

  • You want to attract your most desired clients!
  • You want your branding to portray you as a professional, not someone who is a Do It Yourselfer.
  • You are spending a lot of money on marketing materials and signs which every potential client will see.  You need them to represent your best professional image.
  • People recognize an iPhone or unprofessional photograph and it registers in their minds as cheap.  No one wants to work with cheap people.
  • A professional photographer will discuss what to wear for your session to help you portray yourself in the best possible way.
  • A professional photographer will photograph you in the best light and pose to bring out your best self.
  • A professional photographer will retouch your images to help you look your very best.
  • A professional photographer will help you select the best image according to your marketing message to represent your business.

It’s not as easy as you think!

I’m a photographer who can take a pretty good selfie.  I can even set up my studio and create an honest to goodness professional headshot, but without someone behind the camera, my expression lacks the sincerity and warmth that I like to portray.

Selfie

This is a pretty image for my friends and social media, however I would not want to use this image as my headshot to  represent my business.  I’m not dressed appropriately, the background has distractions at the upper and lower corners and even though the lighting isn’t horrible, it isn’t flattering.

Self Portrait

This is a good headshot of me that I took in my studio.  It looks like me, I am wearing appropriate clothing, the lighting is pretty flattering.  However, I am not posed well, my hair is messy and if you look at my eyes, you can see they lack a bit of interest.  This is because I am staring into a camera on my tripod.  There is no one chatting with me and making me feel comfortable.  No one making sure my hair is perfect and helping me pose for the shot.  There is no spontaneity, no sparkle.

Professional Headshot

This headshot was taken by a professional photographer.  This image is perfect for representing my business.  I am dressed appropriately, my pose is beautiful, the lighting is very flattering and most importantly, I am engaged with the viewer through the interest in my eyes.  Some people think because I’m a photographer all photos of me are good.  That is not the case!  I don’t like being in front of the camera and it took work on my photographers part to get this perfect image!  She posed me down to the last detail and talked with me throughout the session to get that smile and interest in my eyes.  These are the reasons why you need a professional photographer when you are being photographed!

Not everyone likes being photographed

Not many people enjoy being photographed, but when you are promoting yourself as a professional, you need to LOOK like a professional!  Don’t waste time starting out your business or revamping your business without a professional headshot.  It will cost you more in the end!

What will a professional headshot do for you?

Having a professional image tells your clients you are serious about being a professional, it puts you in your best light and makes a good first impression.  It relays that you take your business seriously and you don’t cut corners.  Oftentimes, your potential clients make decisions based on an ad, social media post or article which includes your photo.  You want that decision to be to work with you!  No one wants to do business with someone they think doesn’t take themselves or their business seriously.  If you want your potential clients to take you and your business seriously, you need to project that in every way possible, starting with a professional headshot!

Read Clair Boyles’ article Why Do You Need a Professional Headshot for a perspective from a business coach about her journey to get the perfect headshot.  Don’t waste your time and months of attracting the wrong clients to save a few dollars.  Professional headshot sessions range from $150 to $300 and it is worth every penny!

Novikoff Family Portrait | Sarah Morgan Photography

The Novikoff  Family was visiting San Diego for a vacation over Memorial Day weekend.  They hired me to create a new family portrait for them.  Multi-generational portraits are so meaningful for families.

Novikoff Family Portrait

This family includes grandparents with their grown children and their children.  What a great gift for everyone in the family to have these images to cherish for generations.  Coronado Beach never disappoints for this type of portrait.  There are so many great spots do take family portraits.  You can have the sea as your background or the gorgeous landmark Hotel del Coronado as your background.  There are large boulders the family can be posed on or I can get shots of a family walking along the waters edge.

Family portraits are a great way to stop time and create an heirloom for future generations.  For more information call 858.414.9646 or email sarah@sarahmorganphotography.com

Welcome! We are so excited you are interested in our Survivorship Series Portrait Project!

Cancer has woven its threads through my life, touching the lives of those dearest to me. Witnessing their journey – marked by courage, grace, and unwavering strength – stirred something deep within my soul. It ignited a desire to honor their resilience, to celebrate their beauty amidst adversity.

When I shared my vision with my makeup artist, her immediate embrace of the idea mirrored my own passion. We longed to create an experience that would envelop these remarkable individuals in warmth and care, immortalizing their spirit in timeless portraits. Yet, we stood at the threshold, unsure of how to take the first step.

As fate would have it, serendipity intervened. Through a chance encounter, I crossed paths with Xavier G and Kristin C from the San Diego American Cancer Society. Their enthusiasm for our project was immediate, their eagerness to join forces infectious. And thus, the Survivorship Series Portrait Project was born – a testament to collaboration, compassion, and the power of shared purpose.

Today, with hearts brimming with gratitude and excitement, we unveil this labor of love. To the women and men of San Diego who bear the weight of a breast cancer diagnosis, we extend an invitation. An invitation to be seen, to be celebrated, to be cherished. Know an extraordinary soul deserving of this gift? Nominate them for a complimentary portrait session, complete with professional makeup artistry, a bespoke photoshoot, and two meticulously retouched digital images.

Together, let us weave a tapestry of hope, resilience, and boundless beauty – one portrait at a time.
