Don’t Put Off Your Photos (Here’s Why)

Don’t Put Off Your Photos (Here’s Why)

One thing I hear all the time is that people delay updating their headshots or brand photos because they’re waiting for the “perfect” moment. Maybe you’ve thought about losing a few pounds first, growing out your hair, or finishing a big project before scheduling your shoot. Sound familiar?

Here’s the thing: waiting often costs you opportunites. Your photos are one of the very first impressions people have of you on LinkedIn, your website, your email signature, or social media. Outdated photos can unintentionally send the wrong message, making you seem less current even if your skills, expertise, and business are stronger than ever.

Photography Tip of the Month: Find Your Confidence Spark

When it comes to photos, confidence shines brighter than any outfit, hairstyle, or backdrop. In fact, people will notice your energy long before they notice what you’re wearing. That’s why photographers like me work hard to bring out your authentic personality—it’s the secret ingredient to magnetic, memorable images.

Here are a few ways to find that “confidence spark” before and during your session:

  • Choose a power thought. Think about a recent success, landing a client, finishing a project, or even overcoming something challenging. Recalling that moment of pride helps put a natural light in your eyes.
  • Stand tall. Posture doesn’t just change how you look; it changes how you feel. Standing tall or sitting upright signals confidence to your brain, and that translates into your photos.
  • Engage with your environment. Poses don’t have to feel stiff. Lean on a chair, rest a hand on a desk, or hold a prop that represents what you do. These little interactions make you look natural and comfortable.
  • Breathe and relax. Take a deep breath before the shutter clicks. It releases tension and softens your expression, helping you appear approachable and at ease.

Practicing even one of these before your shoot can make a huge difference in how your photos feel. Confidence is less about how you look and more about how you show up.

So, don’t wait for the “perfect” moment—bring your best self now.
